4)Basically, the sound is a lot  more important than the music.  I don’t think it should be reckoned as  music if Michael Jackson’s or Whitney Houston’s songs played from a MP3 player that produces so poor quality sound, in fact that it insults the singers’ vocal.  You can get low sound quality music everywhere and very cheap. But high quality sound is very expensive to achieve as that requires expensive caps, resistors, cables to produce .  It is very pity that majority people never hear a good sound in lifetime . Silver conductor is the best material to achieve highest quality sound without any doubt.

5)How do you test your hifi to tell the sound quality? If you bought a decent brand hifi, the midrange should not be a problem, the bass depends on the size of the woofer and the output of the power amp, then, the difficult part is the tweeters. You need to know what kind of tweeter in your speakers to test with right music source. One is soft dome tweeter, another is metal dome. You test the soft dome with vocal like Whitney Houston, but test metal dome with guitar music that if your cables are good enough, you should be able to distinguish a bad and good guitar  metal sounds. You would be very hard to test your hifi with Whitney Houston in metal dome and guitar music in soft dome as it is against its natural sound character.

High frequency vs natural sound,  the  highest treble  is important , but natural generated sound is very important as well. You don’t want to hear a guitar or violin sound generated  from a none metal  materials , neither you don’t want to hear a vocal sound generated from a piece of metal . only to emphasize the frequency is not good enough.    That is the reason my hifi system includes both soft and metal domes to produce natural vocal and metal sounds.

6)How does music type affect hifi performance? Vocal and pop music is very simple music and more tolerance to listen. it is not hard and a lot cheaper to achieve high performance. Classical music, violin, piano or full orchestra, if you want to really listen the Stradivari violin true tone, or Eugene ormandy Philadelphia orchestra’s famous string unparalleled performance , then there’s no cheap solution, silver is the only solution.  Pop music like Michael Jackson that used large orchestra and complexity requires a large cap transverse section to reveal all the music details , otherwise you can only listen parts of the music.

7) Tube preamp and amp are not as fine and accurate as solid state , it is great for vocal or pop music, but not very good for classical music, as the tube can not handle  large amount  orchestra complicated music signals simultaneously, saying signal obstruction, you can argue that using a large tube, but that would lose the accuracy even more. If You look mumdorf silver caps, the transverse section is 15 times larger than a normal cap, the theory is letting large music signal getting through without any obstruction, it is not simple using silver for best conductive material. Overall, the tube is not as much details and  accurate  as solid state, and the most important is that you don’t want to listen a Stradivari violin sound distorted by a tube, but rather than as close and true tone as original.

8)The bass vs treble: The hifi bass is mainly depending on the woofer size and the amps power. Better cable only makes huge differences in mid range and treble. but the copper cable helps better bass than silver cable.  The best system is while having deep bass, to have as high and clean treble as possible to achieve the widest sound contrast. The most expensive part is to achieve highest , brightest treble, that a  high end tweeter can go up to $800 each, and needs silver caps and silver cables work together to achieve the results, but the reward is stunning, not just orchestral music, but a very real, finest vocal voice  like in front of you as well.

9) XLR vs RCA: XLR has a special circuit to boost the gain. Then the sound quality largely depends on how good is the circuit design. In majority cases, they are not good designed and produce not as good as the RCA sound, but my sonic frontier line 2 has better XLR circuit that produces more musical sound than RCA output.

10)Multiple speakers vs single pair speakers: single pair speakers is never good enough comparison to multiple speakers which the bass is easily superior to a pair of speakers due to the sound stage. The bookshelf speakers are more accurate and cleaner sound, and using two different types  tweeters (soft dome and metal dome) to produce vocals and strings, that a single pair speakers can not achieve. You can watch in YouTube, one man’s dream, Ken Fritz documentary to know why he uses so many drivers. A 12” woofer naturally produces good deep bass but lacking details in mid bass. A 8”woofer naturally produces good and detailed mid bass but not good deep bass. That is the reason that you need multiple different inches driver to best produce different ranges frequencies of sound.

11)Vinyl vs CD or DAC: nothing can compare vinyl’s clean and detail sound, no matter pop or classic music,  especially in orchestra music, not just a little but huge difference, and the vinyl is much much better original sound. No matter whatwayor how much you upgrade,  digital format music is not going to have the same quality sound as vinyl that can reproduce the metal character sound  of the string .  CD can not reproduce Ormandy Philadelphia fabulous string sound except vinyl, It is very easy to distinguisha a good sound and a badsound in vinyl.

12)Silver vs copper In theory,Internally, most copper is formed from crystals and commonly referred to as polycrystalline (many crystals). Each of the crystals are contained in many small regions called grains and between the grains are boundaries (called grain boundaries).As copper is pulled through these many small openings, the grains are continually deformed, with increasing numbers of boundaries between the grains. The more you mess with the copper, the worse it gets at a microscopic level. And how you pull this wire has much to do with its character as well. Since copper is porous,  The electricity must pass through these boundaries on its travels that slows the signal down where it can be impacted by other things including the dielectric.There is another type of copper, called single crystal copper called OCC, which is made not from pulling copper through small openings, but by casting it into long strips of the exact diameter needed. OCC can greatly reduce the copper grain boundaries problem. The biggest improvements in sound quality come from construction and gauge of wire.Silver is the highest electrical conductive metal, and lowest resistance and the least loss as silver electrons are freer to move than those of the other elements . Silver plated cable is good because the current tents to flow on the surface of conductors rather than through the interior, this is  called skin effects. Practically, the copper cable is warmer but muddy, lacking details and treble, Silver is  colder, much more cleaner, more details, highest treble. The warm  or co ld sound is much related to your preamp and amp design as well.

13)Vintage and Upgrading: Due to the high cost of silver cable and high end caps, the speaker and amp manufacturers tend to use more economic components even in high end manufacturers, no matter new or vintage, it is always a big improvement for the sound by upgrading a better component. If you have a good brand, good model speakers, It is always better upgrading it, a lot cheaper comparing to change a more expensive speaker, it is not necessary swapping the speakers all the time if you have silver caps and silver cable internal the speaker. There are no breakthrough in hifi circuit design last 20 years except huge improvement in components like cables, caps and resistors that make hifi better sound, less noise, wider sound frequency ranges . Upgrading with high quality caps, cables give you the most economical way to achieve the highest quality sound. 9)Upgrading the speakers caps and cables are most effective and obvious sound improvement. Due to the high costs of high end caps and silver cables , the speakers manufacturer tend to make more economic choice for the components, but their drivers most likely much better quality than the components that they fitted in. So, that gives you a big room to improve the sound quality by upgrading the caps and cables in case  of that you have a good brand and model of speakers. Once you ever listen the speakers fitted with silver caps and silver cables, you don’t want to change any speakers unless it is fitted with the same quality components as you would know that you would swap the less sound quality speakers . Basically, once you listened the silver component sound, you would never tolerate less quality sound.For instance, if you have silver caps in your amps and speakers, then you must use silver cables to connect between them or would downgrade the system by using copper cables .

14)If you looked Harbeth’s silver coil tweeter, or audio note ongaku amp that sells US$100k and its speakers , that use pounds of silver wire in the transformer and crossover, All Cap and resistor leads in Audio note ongaku amp are solid pure silver .  it reveals how important a component impacts the extremely complex harmonic structure and phasing in music. In a short word, you would not make a wrong decision by following the big name's doing.

15)Pathway to the micro dynamics:Besides the high quality pre amp and amp, if they are over 20 years old vintage gear, recap them with current high grade caps , no matter how high end of the gear, 20 years old electrode caps have gone and can not compare with today’s caps quality as caps quality affects the sound quality vastly.+ all silver interconnection cables & speakers cables ( no oxygen free copper cables that lose  too much music signals) + silver caps inside the speakers that is the most crucial part to decide what sound coming out of the speakers (if you can afford, like mundorf  silver caps are very good  value for money )You need all the above working together. No one section is lower quality. It is the same theory that it is the shortest board of a wooden bucket deciding the water capacity.

16)Upcycle- last 3 decades, there are no major breakthroughs in the circuit design but huge improvements in audio components like caps, resistors, cables that all play very important roles to improve the sound. In this context, you can upgrade the vintage Hifi system with modern components to achieve much better than the original sound at a fraction cost of the new gear prices. I have upgraded my Focal speakers with Mundorf silver caps and silver cables, you would not make any wrong decisions by following the pathway of Audionote, Harbeth speakers and B&W silver signature speakers. It is most effective and economical way to achieve highest sound quality instead of changing and swapping different speakers all the time that would cost a fortune to do it.
