STEDESAND is a small German town in the Nordfriesland District of Schleswig Holstein. It lies just south of the town of Tønder in Denmark. The area was annexed by Prussia in 1864 from Denmark and remained part of Germany following the local plebiscites in 1920 (see below for full details) .

25 Pfennig Post Plebiscite issue banknote in Multicolours. The note has a lovely design on both sides. On the face the note is in Light Blue, Red and Black against a pale Yellow background. There is a pennant at the top of the note in Blue, Red and White, reflecting the colours of the stripes on the Schleswig-Holstein Flag. At the centre of this is a Black Eagle, a symbol of Germany. Below the pennant, at the centre of the note is the old politically charged Coat of Arms of Nordfriesland or North Frisia which was located within Schleswig Holstein. It shows a Black half Eagle at the right and a Crown at the upper left with a Cooking Pot at the lower right. Under the coat of arms in a Pink banner is the following text ‘Liewer düd as Slaw’ – this is also a highly charged political motto which means – ‘Better Dead than a Slave’.

At the left side is text in German stating:- ‘Dieser Gutschein verliert seine Gültigkeit 1 Monat nach öffentlicher Bekanntmachung im Lecker Anzeiger. - meaning -' This voucher loses its validity one month after the recall was published in the Lecker Anzeiger.' The Lecker Anzeiger was the local newspaper in Südtonder and was published from 1892 to 1937.  At the right is the same text but in the North Frisian dialect of German.

The noted is dated Stedesand Den 10 Okt 1920 at the left side and at the right below the text there is the printed signature of K. Sönnichsen as Di Gemindevorstnijer – translates from North Frisian dialect as ‘The local council leader’.

The reverse has a central image of a Thatched Cottage with poetic text in Dialect above and below, it extolls the virtue of one’s true homeland and symbolically uses the image of a quaint, thatched dwelling to reinforce the sentiment. The text at the bottom calls for togetherness in the homeland and that all who adhere to this are Blessed.

To the left and right of the image is the denomination as ‘25PF.

The note was designed by L Thayssen of Tondern, whose name appears at the bottom on the reverse as Thaysen. The note was printed by the firm of GebH. & Kunze of Flensburg, their ident. is at the lower right, in the margin, on the face.

This Note measures - 85 x 60mm.

HISTORICAL EXPLANATION - HISTORICAL EXPLANATION - This small change Emergency Banknote or Notgeld was issued just after the Referenda held in towns and cities of Schleswig-Holstein, following the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, where the people on both sides of the German/Danish border were allowed to vote on the issue of whether they were to be governed in the future by Germany or Denmark. Stedesand was in Zone 2, just south of Tønder/Tondern, part of which was in Zone 1. In the plebiscite, the people of the town of Tønder voted over 76% to be part of Germany. However, those outside the town in the Northern part of the Tondern area voted differently, with 59% voting for Denmark. However, but overall, in Zone 1, which had a strong pro-Danish majority, the result was 75% voting to be returned to Denmark, so Tønder was detached from Germany and returned to Denmark as it was in Zone 1 of Northern Schleswig. However, Stedesand was in zone 2 and Southern Tondern voted overwhelmingly for Germany with 87.9% in favour of remaining part of Germany, so Stedesand, remained in Germany.

The note is crisp and clean,  and has seen no circulation and minimal handling, it is as issued and therefore grades a superb UNCIRCULATED.

I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS _ PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM!

IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my current location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this.

Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore, those buyers from RUSSIA, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, SAUDI ARABIA MEXICO & CHILE who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item.

I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won .  If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:-

PAYMENT - Pay through the eBay system using your preferred payment method.  In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or a personal cheque drawn in £ on a UK registered Bank, please contact me first if you wish to pay this way. Shipping/handling : UK and Europe: £2.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total,  (buyer’s risk, not recommended!) or £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Rest of World: £3.49 for regular mail of up to 20 grams weight - normally about 10 banknotes in total (buyer’s risk, not recommended) or £10.90 for registered mail (seller’s risk, necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £30). Multiple wins/items are batched and sent at no extra cost, unless weight is significantly higher, above 20 grams.

NB . Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly, but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay, I will usually refund you through the eBay system, before I send your item or items.

A note about feedback

I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect ‘five-star’ scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So, before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay.

Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first!

PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I go back there, I may post from the UK..

Therefore, delivery may take as long as 2 weeks or more, this is not my fault, merely the RESULT of problems having been experienced throughout the International Postal System during 2020 and 2021.

Though happily now, those problems seem to have all but disappeared from 2022, though there can still be the odd delay to some international destinations.
