For sale - British War and Victory Medals, named 4592 PTE W.A. PALMER. 4-BN. A.I.F. Court mounted for display and comes with copies of service records extracts.

William Herbert Palmer was born in London, England about 1875, then was living in Burwood, New South Wales working as a fitters labourer pre war. He enlisted into the 14th Reinforcements 4th Battalion on 8/11/1915. He left Australia bound for Egypt in February 1916, landing on 29/3/1916, just in time to deploy to France landing on 4/4/1916.

He was hospitalised with a deformed toe on 26/5/1916 and bounced about various depots until posted to the 1st ANZAC Headquarters in November 1916, he spent the rest of the war attached to various Higher Headquarters possibly as a officer’s batman. He returned to Australia for discharge on 22/8/1919.
